Welcome to your Blog!!!

Hi guys,
I will work on getting this snazzed up a bit for you over the next couple of weeks. Here is your Problem of the Week.

Good Luck,
Ms. L.

Priscilla and Jessie just started working at Ms. L.’s farm on the weekends. Their first task was to count the ostriches and llamas. They reported to Ms. L.,

Priscilla said, "I counted 47 heads."

Jessie added, "I counted 122 legs."

"But, how many are ostriches and how many are llamas?" asked Ms. L.

"It's getting dark and I promised your mother’s I'd get you home for dinner. There's no time to count again. You'll have to figure out how many ostriches and how many llamas there are from that information when you get home. Can you give me a call after dinner and let me know your answer?"

How many ostriches were there? How many llamas were there? How did Priscilla and Jessie figure out how many ostriches and how many llamas there were? Post your number for each animal and explain fully how they reached their counts. You need to be clear so anyone can follow your process and get the same answer you did.

My answer was 14 llamas and 33 ostriches because when I plugged numbers into the calculator I figured out that 14 llamas plus 33 ostriches equaled 47. The sum of the legs is also 122.
30*2=60 17*4=68 60+68=128
31*2=62 16*4=64 62+64=126
32*2=64 15*4=60 64+60=124
33*2=66 14*4=56 66+56=122/The Answer
34*2=68 13*4=52 68+52=120

33*2+14*4=122

By typing the equation above into the calculator I discovered that there were a final count of 14 llamas and 33 ostriches.

Someone gave me the idea of 17llamas and 30orstriches, that’s 47heads, so we figured that is 128legs, so we lowered the number of llamas 1 at a time, but we also need to add an ostrich each time to keep the heads 47, and when we got to 14llamas and 33 ostriches, we got 122legs.

There are 14 Llamas and 33 Ostriches. I got the answer by just trying numbers That I thought was the number of Llamas. 14(numbers of llamas)*4(legs)=56(llama legs)
And 47(heads)-14(llama heads) =33(ostrich heads) , 33(ostriches)*2(legs)=66(ostrich legs), and 56(llama legs)+66(ostrich legs)=122(legs)

There are 14 llamas and 33 ostriches because 14*4=56 and 33*2=66 14+33=47 and 56+66=122. This is correct because there are 47 animals and 122 legs.

I Tried using more llamas at first and a few ostriches until I realized that if 4 doesn’t go into 122 and 2 does then I have to use a lot of ostriches which also add up to have a lot of animals, or 47 animals.

There are 14 llamas and 33 Ostriches. 14+33= 47 total animal heads. I got this by making a table to show the animals heads from 0-20 but I messed up because when I ended, there were 20 Llamas and 21 Ostriches which only equals 41 heads. Then, I figured out I could make one animal have more heads then another and came up with the Ostriches being 33 heads and the Llamas being 14 heads.

I got the answer by trying numbers that I thought would work, like 25 and 30 for the llamas, but that came out to high, so I switched it around, and instead I got: 14x4=56(llamas)
and 14+33=47,so 33x2=66(Ostriches), and
56+66= 122
It would be 14 llamas
and 33 ostriches

My answer is 14 lamas and 33 ostriches.
14*4 = 56
33*2 = 66
56+66 = 122

This table shows my proof about the numbers at the top.
50+60 = 110
6+6 = 12
110+12 = 122

A.E.,

There are 14 llamas and 33 ostriches in Ms. L.’s farm. I found this out by making a table and did my x column all the way to 20 and started with 10. Then I did 14 and it worked. To check my answer I used the calculator and multiplied 14 by 4 because llamas have 4 legs and I got 56 legs. Then, I subtracted 56 from 122 and I got 66 and I divided 66 by 2 because ostriches have 2 legs. After, that gave me 33 which is the number of ostriches.

Llamas: 14
Ostriches: 33
There are 14 llamas because there are 122 legs total and then if there are 14 llamas times 4 equals 56 and the 33 ostriches equal a total of 66 legs because there are 2 legs for each so 56+66=122 legs.

If there are 47 animals all together and to get 122 legs out of it since 33*2=66 and 14*4= 56 and 56+66=122 then that’s the answer. 33 ostriches and 14 llamas.

1. I think there are 33 ostriches and 14 llamas. 14 multiplied by 4 is 56 and 33 multiplied b y 2 is 66. 56 + 66 = 122. It adds up perfectly.

G.F.,

There are 14 llamas and 33 ostriches. I found out by using a table with x and y coordinates. On the x axis, I experimented with the different numbers. I tried 10, 12, etc…, but It always came up wrong. When I got to 14, I multiplied it by 4 because llamas have 4 legs and it gave me 56. Then I subtracted 56 from 122 because that is how many animals there are all together. My answer was 66. Then I divided 66 by 2 because ostriches have 2 legs. I got 33. So there are 14 llamas and 33 ostriches.

I put numbers to find out how to get the closest to 122. So I took 33*2 and got 66. Then I did 14*4 and got 56. Then as all the other attemps I added the awnsers and go t 122

33*2=66
14*4=56 56+66=122
33 Ostriches and 14 llamas.

So 66 legs divided by 2 equals 33 ostriches and 56 divided by 4 equals 14 llamas

56 / 4=14
66/2=33

JWAnswer:
Ostriches- 33
Llamas- 14

What I did was I did an estimated guess of it being 31 ostriches and 15 Llamas and it did not work. So what I did was that I thought I was really close so I made the number of ostriches 33 and the number of Llamas 14 and those add together was 47.

33*2=66
14*4=56 and those add together was 122 and that was the number of legs but before I got that I said it was 31*2=62 and 15*4=60 and 60+62=122 but 31+15=46 so that could not be my answer.
